Bodywork

Fit the rear wheel arches and trial fit the body

Mark & Drill the wheel arch mounting bolt holes

A year and a week after we collected the starter kit and started building the car, we retrieved the bodywork parts from the roof space of the garage.  Spreading a protective blanket on the floor we checked the moldings for blemishes.  There were one or two but nothing serious.  Using 400 grade wet and dry we rubbed down the edges of the body to make sure there was no debris or loose fitting fibres. We drilled the rear wheel arches according to the diagram in the build manual. Clamped each wheel arch in place and drilled corresponding holes in the body molding

Clamp the wheel arches in place & drill the body correspondingly Trial fit the body

The Wheel arches are secured using bolts, penny washers and nyloc nuts. It proved necessary to file some of the penny washers to a "D" shape to get the best fit.  We ended up with a minor gap between the wing and the body.  We accepted it, deciding to look at it again when the body had settled down.

The body was fitted over the chassis and eased in to place. Once in place, it looked like we needed to trim the front edge of the top of the body to get rid of some blemishes and get the best fit around the rivnuts that will hold the nose cone on. .
